Parking – There is a public car park (Abingdon Car Park) located to the south of the Westminster Abbey in Great College Street. There is no public access to the Clock Tower but an online tour is available on the Parliament Website. Cross over the main road (Westminster Bridge) by the traffic light controlled crossing with the Houses of Parliament on your left. On exiting Westminster underground station, Westminster Clock Tower is in front of you. The tower, designed by Augustus Pugin, was completed in 1858 and has become one of the most prominent symbols of both London and England, often in the establishing shot of films set in the city. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on, during which celebratory events took place. The Elizabeth Tower holds the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and is the third-tallest free-standing clock tower. In September 2012 the Westminster Clock tower was officially renamed the Elizabeth Tower in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower.
